Kaiate Falls is located about 30 minutes out of Tauranga. The falls are located in a scenic reserve, with a pretty bush walk through New Zealand forest that takes you past the various cascades of the waterfall. The walk is around 2km long and is easy, although can be a bit steep and muddy in parts. The waterfall has two main cascades, referred to as the upper falls and the lower falls, with this photo being taken at the lower falls.

The waterfall offers photographers lots of different compositions, but this spot past the base of the lower falls is a favourite. The geography is unique and creates lots of opportunity for leading lines and foreground interest. After wanting to visit for many years, I finally came to this spot with friends in late 2019, this being the final spot on a day photographing the Bay of Plenty waterfalls, and before a climb up Mt Maunganui for sunset.
