The West Coast stretches from Karamea and Oparara Basin in the North, down to Haast Pass in the South. The coast is wild and remote and has the honour of having the highest rainfall of any region in the country. The West Coast is blessed with wind-swept beaches, towering sea stacks, imposing native trees, mossy bush, glacial fed rivers, stunning lakes and waterfalls. Additionally, it is home to one of the top-rated scenic drives in the world. Along the way you can visit beautiful locations such as the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Motukiekie Beach.

There really is scenery for everyone. Lake Matheson is one of the top reflection destinations in New Zealand, an incredible vista in the right conditions where you can get perfect Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Tasman reflects.

Hokitika Gorge is another iconic NZ location, with its aquamarine flowing water (and million sandflies!) The waterfalls of the Haast area, particularly Thunder Creek Falls, are not to be missed. Other favourites in the area include Oparara Basin and Arches, day walks around the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers and beauties such as Lake Paringa, Lake Moeraki and Lake Mapourika.
