Taupo & Waikato Landscape Photography
Photos from the Taupo and Waikato areas. I need to spend a bit more time here! Please click on an image from the thumbnails on the left to scroll through the gallery. Images are available for purchase as fine art prints, on canvas or as a digital licence.
Taupo is a summer hot spot, with kiwis from all round NZ flocking over the Christmas period. Lake Taupo is the largest lake in New Zealand, formed by a massive volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, one of the biggest eruptions in the world in the last 5,000 years. The Taupo township and lakefront has views out to Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngauruhoe, just beautiful on a crisp winter day. The Taupo region is a geothermal area, with numerous nearby hot pools for soaking sore muscles, both commercial and free. The Waikato River starts at Lake Taupo, thundering down the famous Huka Falls (amazing at sunset after the crowds have left) before winding its way through the Waikato and out to the Tasman Sea.
The Waikato is a region I have not fully explored and hope to do so a bit more. Locations I have photographed include Marokopa Falls, Wairere Falls and Alphra Lavender Farm. Waikato is home to rolling green farmland, some beautiful waterfalls, and some of the best cherry blossom displays in NZ during spring. Apparently also home to a few hobbits!
