The top of the South Island is famous for its warm weather, beautiful beaches and golden sands, as well as its mountains, lakes and hiking. A truly diverse region of New Zealand. Nelson is also consistently the region with the most sunshine hours per year. Wharariki Beach at the far-north of the Island is my favourite beach in New Zealand, and I have had some stunning sunrises and sunsets there.

Recently I walked the famous and popular Abel Tasman Coastal Track, which was a gorgeous way to spend a few days over summer. Another favourite is Lake Rotoiti, the gateway to the Nelson Lakes National Park and some spectacular hikes, such as the challenging walk to Angelus Hut. 

The Marlborough Sounds are an extensive network of drowned valleys at the top of the South Island. The drive around the Sounds is stunning on a beautiful day and the water looks almost tropical. Anakiwa is a favourite location of mine, having done Outward Bound there in 2013. Marlborough stretches down below Blenheim, a wine growing region of New Zealand, famous for its fruity sauvignon blanc wines. An amazing location I have photographed is Cape Campbell Lighthouse, near Blenheim.
