Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city. It is famous for its Sky Tower, beautiful harbour and bays, boating and its variable weather. Good for a sunrise on the eastern beaches, with Rangitoto Island in the background, and amazing for sunset on the black sand beaches of the West Coast, including Muruwai, Piha and Karekare. Auckland City itself has many great photographic vantage points, including the views from the summit of dormant volcano Mt Eden, a cityscape from St Mary's Bay and of course the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
The Far North is a beach paradise. The Bay of Islands are amazing and popular during the summer and this area is the gateway to areas such as 90 Mile Beach and Cape Reinga. Cape Reinga, being the northernmost point of NZ, is perfect to watch sunrise or sunset at the place where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean. For a landscape photographer, the area offers endless photography opportunities and stunning sandy, often deserted, beaches.
